Vanessa Alzate has always been captivated by the transformative power of hair and the confidence that comes with it. Raised in Queens, New York, she draws inspiration from the city’s cultural diversity, artistic energy, and constant motion. Her passion for hairstyling began early, experimenting on friends, family, and even mannequins, discovering how a simple change could help someone feel seen and empowered.
She received her formal training at Arrojo Academy before completing Sam Brocato Salon’s apprenticeship program in a year and a half. A highlight of her journey was assisting for Brooks Brothers during New York Fashion Week, an experience that expanded her creative perspective and introduced her to the energy and collaboration of backstage hairstyling. She is especially passionate about curly hair and continues to expand her knowledge of its textures, movement, and possibilities.
Vanessa approaches each client with a creative eye and a commitment to listening. She believes great hairstyling begins with understanding a person’s vision and individuality, and she wants every client to feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for throughout their visit.
Outside the salon, Vanessa loves creating memorable experiences with friends, catching live rock music, and reading gothic literature. She also finds inspiration in nature, poetry, and quiet moments with her dog, Dunkin. A meaningful trip to Colombia, where she connected with family and heritage, continues to shape her creative perspective. A fun fact: she’s ambidextrous, a skill that comes in handy when blowdrying hair.
Drawn to Sam Brocato Salon for its dedication to innovation, artistry, and education, Vanessa thrives in its collaborative environment. As a New Talent Stylist, she is excited to continue growing while helping clients discover hair that feels true to who they are.
